Situated on the Eastern bank of Ayeyarwaddy river, Mandalay is located in central of mainland Myanmar and is the focus of regional communications and trade and transportation routes. Mandalay, also known as Yandanarbon Naypyidaw or Treasure-heap capital is the last royal capital of Myanmar. The city, lies near Mandalay hill was established in 1857 by King Mindon. Mandalay, the cultural city is also the main attraction of Myanmar's arts and crafts.
CultureMandalay is Myanmar's cultural and religious centre of Buddhism, having numerous monasteries and more than 700 pagodas.
Famous PagodasFamous Pagodas such as Mahamuni, Kuthodaw and Kyauk Tawgyi lies within the city, each with its own history and unique features.
Mahamuni - Brought to Mandalay during the reign of King Bodaw
Paya. It is not a pagoda but an image of Lord Buddha, also known as the
Rakhine Image.
Kuthodaw Pagoda - A place where you can see the greatest book in
the world. 729 large slabs of stone on which the Three Pitakas – the
complete teachings of the Lord Buddha has been inscribed.
Kyauk Tawgyi - situated near the southern approach to the
Mandalay hill. It was built in the reign of King Mindon. There is a
huge marble image of Buddha, which was carved out of a single block of
marble.

Zegyo Market - Situated in the downtown area, Zegyo is the
central market and heart of Mandalay. Fine handicrafts and jewellery of
Myanmar origin are also available at Zegyo Market situated in the
downtown area.
Mandalay Hill - It is believed that during the lifetime of Lord
Buddha, he made a prophecy that a magnificent city would be founded at
the foot of Mandalay Hill. 230 metres in elevation, Mandalay Hill
offers gorgeous picturesque view view of the city and surrounding
countryside.
